Decorating Our Space

So, I've been wanting to fluff the Basement for some time now. You know, get a few more throw cushions, put up some more Duran Duran posters, that kind of thing. So I asked Sam of Temporarily Me to come up with some banners, and wouldn't you know it? I can't decide.

What do you think?

This:

Or this:

Or something else entirely?

It's your space, too - I want to know what you think.

(Also? We have a button, thanks to Katie! Looky:

Steal it. Or e-mail me and I'll wrap it all up for you.)

Love the button that shows some women sitting together and presumably dishing ...

the mastheads are a little, well, uninviting and cool. When I picture a basement to share stories, I picture wood panelling, shag carpet, and warmth from a lamp or something ... just an opinion everyone has one.

I like the key one.

I actually love the second one, because secrets, the things we share are never really finished, are they?

the second one - totally.

I like the second banner better.
Perhaps you could have a banner submission period (say, all next week?) and see what other people come up with, and then have a vote.

Personally - love the one with the key - all our secrets and all...

love the button and the banners - I think the one with the key is my fav.

The second one, fer sure.

I like the look of the key - it's a gorgeous banner. But I like the idea of the second one better - instead of emphasizing the secret nature of this space, it puts the focus on the comfort and support: it invites sympathy rather than prurience.

I like the second banner, the first shows a key and the basement should never ever be locked!

I like the second one as well :)

i vote for the second banner. :)

I like the first one because I have a thing for old keys, but it is a bit "It puts the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose again."

The second one is a bit better, but it doesn't look very basement-y. It looks more like the room that leads to the lanai.

i vote for the top one. it's all about the key.

I love the key, but the second one definitely reminds me of the basements I've seen, all old and kind of 70's looking, a place where you wear your pajamas and don't care whether or not the neighbors like your silly couch.

Ahhh... I tried to comment yesterday...

Really like the top banner because of the big old key -- love that.

And love the button, the group of women chatting on the floor...

First one. Definitely.

Look at this, we're all divided! I like the first one.

I like the first one, with the key, it has a welcoming feel to me.

Go for the key...I like the look.

And I'm not reading the comments on this because I didn't want my opinion to be swayed. I just liked the top one best.

Have fun!

After several tries, I have figured out how to make the button work... woo hoo!

If anyone wants to try my code, they can email me for it --my user name at yahoo.com-- seeing as poor HBM's computer ate her homework...and a lot of other things.

Eventhough everyone prefers the second one - and I think it's great - I prefer the top one with the key. It's simple, and I like the idea of inviting someone to a private space. The second one could be an upstairs living room.

I like the first one. Lock and key.

I like the bottom one - it really looks like The Basement I envision!

aDORE the button, so so much.
Like the second banner concept the best, but would like to see something more "basementy" and unfinished looking. will go in search of image:)

both are lovely, but I choose number 2

but actually, I do have to agree with anonymous, that I like the idea of painted cinderblock walls, big throw pillows on the the floor and old carpet. The room where we used to sleepover in highschool, and all the secrets were spilled as we sat on the old furniture and ate goodies stolen from the pantry.

Aesthetically, I like number one. But for what we do here, I really like number two better.

Since many like the saying on the second one and like the visual of the key on the door, why not put "The Basement: Always Unfinished" on the first picture?

Without the words on the second picture, it just looks like the corner of a room.

I'm going to try and add the button to my site...wish me luck on that one. I like the look of the key, but like the always unfinished. The room in the bottom looks more like a living room from the 70's than a basement. JMO. Thanks!

number 2. but not completely. I like the words, but the image is wrong. there is too much sunlight. I'm with the others re: shag carpeting, a dressmaker's dummy or two.... wood panelling... Wait a minute... I'm extrapolating. That's my grandma's basement that I'm describing... without the mothballs.

number 1? Honestly? It makes me think of a soft porn flick with a smattering of adultery.

Not that I watch those. Much.

Wow. I'm totally new to your blog, and the idea of this basement is the coolest thing EVER! So take my vote as a newbie with a grain of salt: I don't like either of the mastheads; I agree with one of the commenters that they look a little cool. Too proper. I'd be much more likely to dish if the basement had a second hand couch and some honest to goodness wood paneling. Maybe a ping-pong table. We have to have a place to set our beers down.
